The former name of Sinhagad fort was Kondhana. According to the legend of the local Mahadev Koli people, Kaudanyarishi performed penance here, hence the name Kondhana. This fort was already in the possession of Mahadev Koli people. Here Mahadev Koli was in the possession of King Nagnath (Naga) Naik.
